Australian seamer Mitchell Starc is undoubtedly one of the most menacing and dangerous bowlers in the present generation. His swinging deliveries, his tramline yorkers and his consistent line and lengths make him a valuable asset of any team,
Starc’s relationship with the Indian Premier League (IPL) has not been a healthy one. He last played in the cash-rich league way back in 2015 when he represented the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
He then missed 7 seasons because of either injuries or personal reasons. The Australian seamer even opted out of the IPL 2022 mega-auctions. In IPL 2018, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) broke the bank to acquire his services for a lofty Rs.9.4 crores. However, an injury ruled him out of the tournament.
In this article, we analyse why Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) might buy him in the mini-auction if he is available:
Mumbai Indians endured their worst season in IPL 2022 and languished at the bottom position in the table. Even though Jofra Archer might be returning to MI, the Rohit-Sharma led side might want to further bolster their bowling attack by acquiring the services of Mitchell Starc. The trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer and Mitchell Starc would be a deadly attack. The presence of a left-arm seamer would be an added incentive to skipper Rohit Sharma.
Chennai Super Kings
Just like MI, Chennai too did not have a good season. They finished in the 9th position and a mid-season captaincy change highlighted their problems. With MS Dhoni back as the captain of the ship, CSK might opt for Mitchell Starc’s presence. The likes of Adam Milne, Chris Jordan and Dwayne Bravo are already present in the line-up of CSK and the addition of Starc would add more fuel to the tank. Starc’s consistency and his fiery deliveries would lure CSK to buy him.
