Fast bowler Duan Jansen is looking to step out of his twin brother’s shadow in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL).
The 22-year-old Jansen made his IPL debut against the Kolkata Knight Riders on Sunday, taking one for 53 in Mumbai Indians’ five-wicket win over the Knight Riders.
On Tuesday, he will face his brother, Marco, when the Sunrisers Hyderabad host the Mumbai Indians at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium.
Duan and Marco Jansen are the first pair of twins to play in the IPL.
Mumbai bought Duan Jansen for INR 20 lakh (R407 779) at the IPL auction after impressing for MI Cape Town in the inaugural SA20.
“Actually, the thing is that we have never played against each other,” he said in an exclusive interview with mumbaiindians.com.
“We really want to play against each other. So, I’m very excited and, hopefully, we get that opportunity.”
Duan, who played four games for MI Cape Town in the SA20 and took four wickets as they finished bottom of the standings, is eager to prove himself in the ongoing IPL and differentiate himself from his twin brother and Proteas all-rounder, Marco.
“Obviously, everyone knows my brother. But I’m different,” said Jansen.
“We may do the same thing on the field, but I’m a different human being and bring something different to the table.
“So, I just want to showcase myself and show people who I am.”
Play on Tuesday starts at 16:00 SA time.
