A special match between the Maharajas of India and international giants will be played on September 16 at Kolkata’s Eden Gardens to commemorate India’s 75th anniversary of independence. This match has also been announced by the tournament’s organizers.
Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup champion of England, will skipper the global giants while Sourav Ganguly will represent the Indian Maharajas. On September 17, after this special game, LLC Season 2, which will feature several international cricketing titans, will start.
However, the inclusion of several Pakistani cricketers in the event has drawn significant criticism. Bilateral sporting events between the two neighbours are nonexistent as a result of the tense political relations between them.
Questions about their participation in the league and the stance of the federal government and BCCI on this have been raised due to the presence of several Pakistani players in the draught pool.
Concerns are also being expressed about Ganguly’s participation in the league and the fact that he receives payment for serving as the president of the BCCI, an “office of no-profit.”
‘Sourav Ganguly is not charging anything for this match’: Raman Raheja
In response to Ganguly’s involvement in the competition, Legends League Cricket (LLC) CEO and co-founder Raman Raheja stated that the renowned Indian cricketer is not accepting any money for the match, indicating that it is time to honor India’s 75th anniversary of independence.
“No, Sourav Ganguly will not be charging for this match. This game is a special celebration of India’s 75th year of independence. We are working on a few particular topics that the league will assist with. We do not want to call it a charity game” Raman Raheja said in a statement.
