KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Axar Patel continued his outstanding form for the Delhi Capitals in the 2023 edition of the IPL
- Patel walked in to bat in a difficult situation on Monday against Sunrisers Hyderabad when Delhi were 62/5
- Delhi Capitals sealed a thrilling 7-run win after scoring just 144 runs
At the post-match presentation, Axar who was adjudged player of the match left the presenter and commentator Harsha Bhogle in splits with hilarious revelation.
“Mujhe toh kuch pata hi nahi chala, maine toh coffee order ki thi. Par wahi coffee ka glass main vaise ka vaisa chhod ke aaya jab mujhe pata chala ki teen wicket ek hi over mein chale gaye hain. Toh main bhaag ke seedha andar aaya (I had no clue what really happened as I had just ordered a coffee. But I had to leave the coffee glass as it is when I got to know that we lost three wickets in an over. So I quickly went off to the field).
“Andar aake thoda socha kya ho raha hai, kya nahi ho raha hai. Main jab aaya toh [Manish] Pandey tha aur Pandey ne mujhe yahi bola ki jitna deep leke jaayenge kyunki humare pass agar run honge toh hum thoda sa fighting kar sakte hain (After coming in to bat, I took a couple of minutes extra to see what was happening and what wasn’t. Manish Pandey was batting at the other end and he just that we have to take it deep because if we have some sort of a score, we can fight),” he further added.”
Axar had a different role with the bat on Monday as he had to do the rescue job for a few overs. Axar was going at a strike rate below 100 before he smashed three fours in leg-spinner Mayank Markande’s over. While Axar smashed a run-a-ball 34, Manish Pandey scored 34 off 27 as they took Delhi to a respectable total of 144 runs.
However, some poor batting from Sunrisers batters and some brilliant bowling in the middle by Axar and Kuldeep and the pacers at the end, helped Delhi prevail in a tight contest. Skipper Aiden Markram rued SRH batters’ lack of intent.
