The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2022, a T20 competition played by Ranji Trophy teams, kicks off the second half of the Indian men’s senior domestic season on Tuesday with the group round (October 11). SMAT 2022 will include a number of IPL talents. Interestingly, if the squad is divided by IPL team-wise distribution, then the scenario is totally different.
There will be 38 teams competing in the fifteen edition SMAT T20 tournament, divided into five separate Elite Groups with eight teams in each of Groups A, B, and C and seven teams in each of Groups E and F. Six cities—Lucknow, Jaipur, Mohali, Indore, and Lucknow—will host a total of 126 group phase games, while Kolkata will host all ten knockout games.
The knockout round will begin on October 30 with the pre-quarterfinals, followed by the quarterfinal on November 1 and the semifinals on November 3. The group phase will end on October 22.
