Ambati Rayudu has clarified that his cryptic tweet after a defeat to Rajasthan Royals was not related to Sunil Gavaskar’s comments criticising him for not fielding enough, but rather a general message about ups and downs in life and sport. Gavaskar had singled out Rayudu, who has only scored 83 runs in eight games with an average of 16.60 was not contributing enough.

KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Ambati Ryaudu clarified his tweet
- Sunil Gavaskar criticised Rayudu for not fielding
- Rayudu revealed why he is playing the impact player role
Gavaskar was critical of Rayudu for being an impact sub and not fielding. The MS Dhoni-led outfit has used Rayudu in that role in almost all matches of the tournament, with a bowler taking his place when they are fielding. Gavaskar used Prithvi Shaw’s example to suggest it as the reason behind his poor form.
“You got to field. You can’t just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can’t do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck,” said Gavaskar on-air during the CSK-RR match.
Rayudu also offered a clarification on his being the impact player, stating that he has no control over that and that it is a decision made by Dhoni and the team management rather than him.
“What nonsense… my tweet has nothing to do with the great mr Gavaskars comments.. his opinions are well respected and in regards to my fielding . A player doesn’t decide if he wants to field or not,” wrote Rayudu on Twitter.
“In life and sport ups and downs are a constant part. We need to be positive and keeping working hard and things will turn around. results are not always a measure of our effort. So always keeping smiling and enjoy the process..,” Rayudu had posted earlier in the day.
