Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni enjoyed a long post-match chat after CSK’s win against RCB. Kohli was India’s vice-captain when Dhoni was the captain for a long period of time. Kohli had revealed last year that Dhoni was the only person who contacted him after he resigned from India’s Test captaincy.

Kohli was India’s vice-captain under Dhoni’s leadership; both are known to share a close bond. Dhoni played under Kohli’s captaincy for India for a couple of years before his retirement, including in India’s run to the 2017 Champions Trophy final and the 2019 World Cup semi-final.
Talking about the match, CSK won the high-scoring thriller by 8 runs. Devon Conway (83 in 45 balls), and Shivam Dube (52 in 27 balls) helped the visitors put up a massive total of 226 on the board. In reply, CSK got off to a dream start with Kohli sustaining a rare failure with a first-over dismissal. Later, Mahipal Lomror departed in the second over.
However, Glenn Maxwell and Faf du Plessis completely changed the dynamics of the game, and at one point it looked like the hosts would register an easy win. The duo put up a 136-run partnership in just 61 balls. Maxwell made a 36-ball 76, while Faf got 62 runs in 33 balls. However, RCB lost momentum after their departure as CSK sealed their third win of the season.
Kohli and Dhoni share a special bond. Last year, after the India-Pakistan Asia Cup tie in the Asia Cup, Kohli revealed that the 2011 World Cup-winning skipper was the only one who approached him after he left Test captaincy.
“I can tell you one thing… when I left Test captaincy, I got a message from only one person, with whom I have played previously – MS Dhoni. Many people have my number. On TV, lots of people give suggestions, but whoever had my number, no one texted. When you have a genuine connection with someone, it shows because you’re never insecure about each other.
“When I’ve to say something to someone, I reach out to the person individually, even if it’s to help them. If you say it in front of the entire world, that has no value to me. If it’s for my improvement, you can talk to me one-on-one. I live my life with honesty, so these things matter to me. As long as I am worthy of playing for the country, that’s how I will play,” said KOhli.
