KL Rahul’s half-century of 74 runs in 56 balls helped Lucknow Super Giants post 159 runs against Punjab Kings in the 2023 IPL match. Rahul broke multiple records in the process and dethroned Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle to put his name on top of the list of multiple all-time lists.
This was not the end of Rahul’s achievements for the day, as he became the fastest Indian to complete 2,000 IPL runs as captain. Rahul is the second fastest overall to achieve the massive milestone, behind David Warner. This is the fourth season of the star opening batter leading an IPL team, having led PBKS in 2020 and 20211 and taken charge of LSG last year.
Aside from Rahul’s gritty knock, no other LSG batter even managed to cross the 30-run mark, with Kyle Mayers being the second-highest scorer with 29 runs. PBKS’ stand-in skipper Sam Curran took a three-wicket loss. The English star is leading the team due to Shikhar Dhawan’s absence due to an injury.
