KEY HIGHLIGHTS
- Lucknow Super Giants suffered a major injury
- Skipper KL Rahul walked off the field with what looked like a hamstring injury
- Krunal Pandya is leading LSG in Rahul’s absence
After checking for a couple of minutes, Rahul was taken out of the field. While a stretcher was called by the support staff, Rahul was able to walk on his own back to the dressing room. The injury will not just be of massive concern to LSG but also to Team India with just a month left for the all-important 2023 World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia.
In Rahul’s absence, Krunal Pandya is leading LSG as they aim to register their sixth win of the season and go level on points with defending champions and table toppers Gujarat Titans. LSG are currently second in the table with five wins and three defeats.
It remains to be seen if Rahul will walk out to open the batting with his opening partner, Kyle Mayers. If Rahul is unable to bat, LSG has the option of bringing in an impact player instead of him. However, it is likely to see them without a specialist batter for the chase.
India will hope Rahul’s injury is not serious, as they are already without Rishbabh Pant, Shreyas Iyer, and Jasprit Bumrah for the marquee clash. Rahul is a contender to keep wickets, with the Rohit Sharma-led team picking just one specialist gloveman (KS Bharat) in the 15-man squad.
