MI take on RR on May 30 in the IPL 2023, and this will be the 1000th game in the history of the tournament. However, it was earlier advertised that CSK vs MI on May 6 was to be the historic game. Here’s why the change was made.
However, now the 1000th match is happening 7 days earlier at the Wankhede Stadium, after some recalculations. Till the 2022 edition of the IPL a total of 951 matches were played. This meant that Match 49 of the IPL 2023 would have been the 1000th game of the IPL. However, in between these 951 games, a total of 7 games were played which were called off and yielded no result.
Even though not a ball was bowled in these 7 games, all of these have to be declared as official matches according to cricketing rules. So, a total of 958 official games have been played in the IPL. This makes the 42nd game of the IPL 2023 as the 1000th game of the tournament’s history.
Mumbai Indians are not having the best of campaigns in the IPL. They are currently in the 9th position on the table with 6 points.
