Despite saying goodbye to the national team; both players have not ruled out the possibility of making a comeback to the sport for the Women’s IPL.In fact, Mithali dropped a major bombshell and has hinted at possibly owning a team in T20 cricket extravaganza.
“Maybe, yes,” said Mithali in an interaction with news agency PTI on being asked about the possibility of buying a team. Mithali stated that she has kept her options to be part of the tournament in some way whether it be a player or even as a mentor but is awaiting more details on the tournament.
“I am keeping that role open, whether as a player or in a franchise in some way as a mentor. “But right now, nothing is clear, there are five teams…how they are going to do, whether it’s a bidding or auction, so until there is some concrete information, I am keeping pretty much all things open,” the former India captain added.
Mithali made her commentary debut at the ongoing 2022 Men’s T20 World Cup. “I am watching cricket from a very different optics. I still do feel the nerves if it’s a tight game. I still have to cross that barrier of not feeling those emotions of a player. I am just testing the waters if I am apt for commentary. Maybe after a few months, I will see if I still have keenness to pursue it,” said Mithali on her role.
Talking about the Women’s IPL, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) approved the tournament in a historic decision at its Annual General Meeting (AGM) last month in Mumbai.
