One of the nine Punjab Kings players released prior to the IPL 2023 mini-auction was Mayank Agarwal. Prior to the IPL 2022 season, Punjab kept hold of him for 12 crores and appointed him as the team’s captain. However, following a forgetful campaign, the management made the decision to release him.
In 12 innings of IPL 2022 play, the right-handed batsman managed just 196 runs. The Kings’ management then appointed Shikhar Dhawan as the franchise’s captain for the IPL 2023 season. Between 2020 and 2022, Mayank scored 1513 runs in 60 games for the franchise, including nine fifty-plus runs and a century.

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB)
Given that Mayank Agarwal is from Karnataka and has extensive experience playing at M.Chinnaswamy Venue, the home stadium of Royal Challengers Bangalore, the Bangalore-based franchise may target him.
He has amassed a large number of runs while competing at RCB’s home stadium and considering that the 2023 IPL will be played in its traditional home-and-away format, he could be useful to the squad.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR)
KKR released 16 players, including several opening alternatives from last season. The KKR would prefer a dependable and seasoned opener who can both play offensively and anchor the innings when necessary. They may pursue Agarwal in the IPL 2023 auction. KKR struggled with proper opening options last season and nailing down that one position would be their priority. Agarwal seems a good player to go after for KKR in the IPL 2023 auction.
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH)
After starting for them in 12 games last season, Kane Williamson was dropped by Sunrisers Hyderabad in a surprising decision. Williamson had to be released by SRH despite having the option to buy him back due to his retention price of 14 crores and poor performance in 2022.
This enables the opening position at SRH as Abhishek Sharma’s partner. At the auction table, Mayank Agarwal might notice a lot of interest from SRH. Agarwal provides SRH with an exotic Indian flashy opening alternative over Williamson.
